Step 4: Customize Your Blog (the Basics)

Before we kick off with step, there is something important you need to realize - there are infinite customizations you can make to your blog. On one hand, that means you really set your creativity free. On the other hand, that means you can tweak and tweak your blog from the look and feel to the placement of content. At some stage, you really just need to accept where you are and move onto publishing content.

With this in mind, let’s start with the Pareto Principle - also known as the 80 / 20 Rule. Essentially, 80% of effects come from 20% of the causes. Huh? In simple terms - you will get 80% of the value of your customizations from 20% of the time you would spend over the lifetime of your blog.

As a beginner, let’s focus on just spending that 20% so that you get the mass impact benefit … and can move onto the really important part - writing and publishing content. Thereafter, you can (and should) keep evolving your look and feel, but never at the expense of publishing quality content.

With this in mind, there are 2 (two) things we really want to encourage you to focus on in customizing your blog.

  1. The theme - or the “look and feel”; and
  2. The legal stuff.
